What are City Groups?
They are a group of “City Lifers” who gather weekly in community to grow spiritually and live on mission together.
What is Vision of City Groups?
Every Person. In Community. On Mission.
City Groups are geographically driven. Most all people in Wichita have one or more groups within a few miles of where they live.
The goal of City Groups is for every person to live in community, grow as a disciple, experience care, and to live on mission for the sake of our neighbors and the city.
Why City Groups?
God has designed his people, the church, to live in community (Acts 2). Even God Himself is the perfect example of communion in his eternal Triune nature. We have been created in the image God, the imago Dei, and God has called us into community with others and with himself. Romans 12:9-13 gives us an example of what this community should look like: it should be spiritual; prayerful; loving of others; joyful; caring; serving those in need with family; and hospitable.
Hebrews 10:23-25 serves as an excellent reminder of our calling to be in community and on mission
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
How do City Groups work?
We believe that exploring, growing, and living as a follower of Jesus happens best in the context of “regular life”. We have designed our groups with this in mind. In a home (not a church building), near where you live (not across town), with families (not removed from family discipleship), and on a rhythm (allowing us the margin to ACTUALLY live on mission – see below).
City Group Rhythm
Week 1- City Groups (Wednesdays*, 6:30 p.m. - gathering in homes for Bible study, prayer, and community)
Week 2- Love Your Neighbor Gatherings (Wednesday* Evenings – an evening out for dinner, dessert, or fun with the goal of inviting our neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc.)
Week 3- City Groups (Wednesday*, 6:30 p.m.)
Week 4- Serve the City (Groups meet together in community to intentionally engage and serve the city for the sake of the gospel. Days/times and locations vary within each group. Contact your group’s leaders or visit your group’s Facebook page for specific details)
Week 5- A few times throughout the year we have months with 5 Wednesdays*. See you group’s leaders and/or Facebook for details on these weeks.
What Should I expect?
We desire all people of City Life Church to be involved in a City Group. Since our groups are geographical in nature, the group makeup will look a lot like your neighbors.
Expect a warm, open, hospitable, and friendly environment.
Group size and dynamics will vary from group to group.
Students - We believe young people should be fully incorporated into the life and rhythm of City Groups. Along with their family, City Group should be the foundational means by which a young person is formed into disciple of Jesus Christ.
Kids - There will likely be kids running around everywhere. We love this. We embrace this atmosphere, and so should you.
There will be FOOD. What and how much varies from group to group and week to week.
We will open the Bible and we will pray together.
