First Evangelical Free Church and City Life Church would like to invite you and your congregation to attend City Forum: A Dialogue on Race. The purpose of this event is simple: together, we desire to gather churches from our community around matters of race to foster a culture of wisdom, understanding, and humility in the name of Jesus Christ. In short, our desire is to see churches educated in the School of Christ for the Kingdom of God. To this end we have invited principal leaders from the African American community to shape the contours of the discussion by offering timely, gospel-centered presentations on the intersection of race and culture in the American church. Additionally, we are inviting you to participate in the dialogue by contributing your thoughts, questions, and concerns in a safe atmosphere of mutual respect. “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord” (Isa. 1:18). Indeed, that is what we intend to do for the glory of God and the edification of His Church.
It is our unreserved hope that this forum would be a catalyst for greater awareness, reflection, and conversation in our churches on the pressing topic of racial reconciliation. Even more, though, we hope it will lead all of us to greater repentance, prayer, and worship as the Holy Spirit teaches us the true, if difficult, meaning of loving our neighbors as ourselves. Being disciples of Jesus Christ demands nothing less.
