WHAT IS PARTNERSHIP?
Partnership is for those who desire to become an official partner of City Life. We use “partnership” instead of “membership” because it signifies that joining our church isn’t the goal -- active participation in the vision that God has called this church family to in our city and world is our main prerogative.
Committing yourself to a body of believers is weighty, but it’s also wonderful. When Partners join, they commit to a spiritual family that provides encouragement and support. They are called to a biblical responsibility, which entails service and sacrifice to and for their brothers and sisters. Our Elders and leaders also enter into covenant with you to assist our Partners with care, counsel, prayer and teaching.
STEPS TO PARTNERSHIP
Step 1: Partnership Class and Elder Interview
As you consider joining City Life Church as a Partner, we offer a class that discusses what it means to be a Partner, introduces you to the various ministries in our church, and informs you of our vision and values, basic beliefs and strategy for discipleship and serving the city. We desire you to know exactly what it means to partner together, what expectations exist, and investigate how you can serve our church family. At the conclusion of the class, each person will sit through an elder interview to share his or her gospel story and discuss the responsibilities as a contributing Partner.
Step 2: Baptism
Water baptism is a symbolic demonstration of a person’s union with Christ in the likeness of His death and resurrection. It signifies that a person’s former way of life has been put to death and depicts a release from the mastery of sin. As a symbol, baptism illustrates several significant realities:
1. Christ’s death and resurrection
2. The disciple’s union with Christ in His death and resurrection
3. The new life in which a disciple walks
4. Cleansing and washing away of sin
Water baptism, therefore, is only intended for the individual who has received the saving benefits of Christ’s atoning work through faith in Christ. Thus, we do not baptize infants. Visit our baptism page for more information on baptism.
Step 3: Presentation to Church Body
Each Partner, following elder approval, will be presented to and affirmed by the church in a Sunday service following completion of the partnership class.
